Behind on the Bills and Facing DelaysJust as speculation about economic cooling solidified into a downturn, I found myself half employed due to various circumstances, some of which, admittedly, I precipitated. So, when a fellow editor in my department requested to switch to part time, I was hopeful that I would be able to take her place as a full-time employee. The unstable economy, however, has understandably persuaded the company to postpone its decision until mid-January. With luck and timing, everything will work out, and the company will pull me from the financial edge just as my first child, a girl, is born into a temporarily one-income household.
