Seasoning the BalanceThe sun came out Monday. It had been a dreary weekend, flooding my structured schedule and dampening my enthusiasm. I stumbled from one project to the next, my hours saturated with humdrum work, with little for the mind or the memory to grab and keep. I was caught between the seasons this weekend, standing at a gas station in a T-shirt with the wind blowing cold misty rain across my arms, my neck, and my face. I looked across the highway and thought of the sniper in Maryland. I thought of the husbands, wives, parents, and children standing at their windows come a weekday morning, watching loved ones cars pull out of the driveway, the silhouette looking forward, down the road.
